Chadirji’s Hawally
Brief
In this workshop, participants explored and documented the transformation of the Hassawi Residential Complex designed by Rifat Chadirji in 1970, a landmark in Hawally, through layered artistic techniques. The focus was on representing the building's architectural evolution, capturing both its original design and the haphazard changes that have occurred over time. Through a combination of architectural observation by looking at archival photos, drawings, and a tour of the building to observe its current state and imaginative re-imagining.
Outcome
Participants worked on creating a layered A2 vellum collages through drawing, block printing and collage making. The posters created highlighted various aspects that caught their attention either by depicting the building's current form, documented changes that occurred to the structure, or a re-imagined reality of the space.
